People that are close to me know that I'm a water baby. After growing up in Hawaii and being close the ocean for over half of my life, there is no place I'd rather be than in the ocean. It's important to me to take a trip once a year so I can recharge my batteries and swim, swim, swim. This past year we went to Bimini (in the Bahamas) to swim with wild dolphins. Unfortunately our timing wasn't that great as there was a hurricane coming through at the same time, but we made the best of it! It was my second trip to Bimini and I was really looking forward to a week without a phone, internet or tv and some real island living. I have the utmost respect for underwater photographers - it wasn't easy taking photos underwater...... The shipwreck photos are of the SS Sapona, a concrete rum runner ship that ran aground during a hurricane in 1926. After visiting the Sapona, we then ventured on to a place where a research lab fed black tipped sharks. Well, we never made it there - along the way we encountered a small pod of dolphins in some crystal clear water. We immediately jumped in the water and swam with them for about an hour! I also want to mention that even though we could have reached out and easily touched the dolphins (yes, we were THAT close and yes, it was a little tempting), we didn't. It was very important to me to just observe and "be" with them. This was an experience that will resonate with me for a very long time.
